To find a tune... You may search for a recording by typing the first and last name of the artist of your choice. For example, typing "Artie Shaw" or "Louis Armstrong" will yield more specific results than typing only the first name OR the last. Typing "Louis" alone will bring up all recordings by anyone whose name is "Louis" and not only those by Mr. Armstrong. Also, specific groupings of letters or portions of words can bring up interesting results. For example, typing in "stra" could bring up any word containing these letters such as "Orchestra", "Stravinsky" or "Turkey in the Straw". While quotation marks (") cannot be used in the search, we have improved the search function to enable the use of apostrophes (') which so frequently occur in Jazz music titles. For example, in the title field, the title "I don't want to do it" will change to the following as soon as the "Submit" button is clicked: "I don\'t want to do it (a backward slash is placed between the apostrophe and the previous letter of the word). But the listed results will include any title containing the word "don't" with the apostrophe intact. For titles, one, two, three or four words with a single space between them can be used to search.

Billy Butterfield's Orchestra It's All Right With Me  (1956)
Billy Butterfield (tpt solos) Bernie Glow, Tony Faso, Jimmy Nottingham (tpts) Lou McGarity, Cutty Cutshall (tbns) Boomie Richman, Danny Bank, Toots Mondello, Nick Caiazza (saxes) Hank D' Amico (cl)Jack Lesberg (b) Mickey Carrano (p) Dottie Smith (vocal, if any)
(New York, December 5th, 7th and 10th, 1956). Copied from an original 1957 vinyl pressing of the album ''They're Playing Our Song''. In late 1956, Walter Rivers, an RCA artists and repertoire (''A & R'') man, telephoned Butterfield, asking him to record a dozen songs for an album, but he warned that they had to be completed before the end of the year. As Butterfield later reminisced to writer Alan Littlejohn, ''It turned out that RCA had made so much money with Elvis Presley that year that they wanted to cut some sides to show as a tax loss, to save them getting crucified by the taxman! So, one of my claims to fame is that I was a tax loss for Elvis Presley!''
